Who Is Glenn Close?
Glenn Close is one of American film’s most decorated actresses, and, until 2026, one of its most famously Oscar-less. Across a career spanning five decades, she built a résumé that runs from Shakespeare on stage to blockbuster villainy on screen, earning eight competitive Academy Award nominations without ever winning one, a distinction she shared with Peter O’Toole.
That changes in November 2026. The Academy announced Close will receive an Honorary Oscar at the 17th Governors Awards, alongside Ridley Scott and animator Floyd Norman, finally putting a statuette in her hands after decades of near-misses that began with The World According to Garp in 1983 and ran through Fatal Attraction, Dangerous Liaisons, Albert Nobbs and The Wife.
Close has never slowed down waiting for recognition. In late 2025 she appeared in Rian Johnson’s Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery as a formidable churchgoer opposite Daniel Craig, a performance some awards watchers think could earn her a ninth nomination. In November 2026 she steps into the Hunger Games universe as Drusilla Sickle, the District 12 escort in prequel Sunrise on the Reaping.
Offscreen, Close has largely left Hollywood’s coastal orbit behind. She has lived full-time in Bozeman, Montana since 2019, drawn back by family, her siblings live nearby, after decades split between New York and Los Angeles. It’s a deliberately modest existence for an actress about to collect one of the industry’s highest honors.
